If you are looking up the weather in Pal Arinsal or the weather in Arinsal, what you want to know is whether you will find good snow and a day worth skiing. Pal Arinsal is two linked sectors, Pal and Arinsal, reached from different villages in La Massana, and the weather is not always the same in both. In this guide we explain what the resort's weather is like through the season, what to check before heading up, and where to find the official snow report and the live webcams.
What the weather is like in Pal Arinsal
The resort has more than 63 km of slopes between 1,550 and 2,560 metres of altitude. That is more than a thousand metres of vertical drop, so the difference between the base and the upper slopes is noticeable: it can be raining or foggy below while it snows up top, or the sun can be shining on the peaks above a sea of cloud over the valley.
The two sectors have a different character. Pal has plenty of runs through the forest, which give more definition and shelter on foggy or windy days. Arinsal is more open in its upper areas, with better views on clear days but more exposed when the weather turns. They are linked by the cable car running from Coll de la Botella, in Pal, to Port Negre, in Arinsal: if one sector is worse, you can switch to the other as long as the cable car is running.
Access and weather: what changes depending on your way up
- La Massana gondola: leaves from the town centre and climbs to the Pal sector, rising 675 metres over a 2,250-metre ride. It is a good option on snowy days, because you avoid driving the mountain road.
- Arinsal - Els Orriols gondola: leaves from the village of Arinsal, next to the hotel area, and gives direct access to the sector's slopes.
- By car to Pal: the road climbs to the base of the sector. On snowy days carry chains or fit winter tyres.
Pal Arinsal weather through the season
December: start of the season
The 2026/27 season is scheduled to open on 4 December, always subject to the snow and the weather. As at any resort, not everything is usually open at the start, so check the snow report before booking a long weekend.
January and February: the heart of winter
These are usually the coldest months, with the best-preserved snow. It is also when storms with wind and fog can blow in. On days with poor visibility, Pal's forest runs are the easiest option.
March and April: spring
More sun and longer days. The snow changes throughout the day, so it pays to start early and look for the higher slopes in the afternoon. Closing is scheduled for 4 April 2027, also depending on the snow.
What to check before going to Pal Arinsal
- Status of the Pal - Arinsal cable car: if it closes because of wind, the two sectors are cut off from each other.
- Wind in Arinsal's upper areas: it affects the most exposed lifts.
- Visibility: in fog, Pal and its forest runs are the better bet.
- New snow and avalanche risk: essential if you are going off-piste.
- Lifts and slopes open: the figure that best sums up what the day will be like.
