What to look for on the Pas de la Casa webcams before you go
- Is there snow in the village? If the Pas de la Casa camera shows white ground, expect snow on the road. When there's snow, chains or winter tyres are compulsory.
- Is it closed in up top? Compare the village with Coll Blanc and Grau Roig. If you see fog or snow blowing off the ridges higher up, it's windy and the most exposed lifts may stop even if it looks fine lower down.
- What's the snow like? Shiny and untracked first thing = hard or icy, so wait for it to soften. Matt and smooth after a snowfall = powder.
- What's happened since first light? The player keeps the last few hours: scroll back through the video to see whether it kept snowing and how the visibility has changed.
When to check the webcams
Check the webcams the night before to see whether it snowed during the day, then again between 8 and 9am, once it's light. If there's fresh snow, leave with time to spare in case you need to stop and fit chains. Out of season it's normal for the cams to be black or show an error image.
Getting to Pas de la Casa: from France or over Envalira
From France you arrive on the N-22, straight to the border. From inside Andorra, you take the CG-2 and the Port d'Envalira or the Envalira tunnel, which bring you out on this same side, with Grau Roig just above the village.
