Which range to choose

• Intermediate (€29.75 a day for a full set): the entry range, for beginners and for skiers already comfortable on blue and red runs; easy-turning, forgiving skis.
• Advanced (€40 a day): for faster skiers who want grip and stability on red and black runs; at Baqueira, red runs are the most numerous.
• Children (€16 a day): skis, boots and poles sized for the child, with bindings set to their weight.
• Skis only, if you bring your own boots: €26 (Intermediate), €33 (Advanced) or €13 (Children) a day. Boots only: €15, €18 or €10 a day.
• Snowboard rental in Vielha: board and boots at €35 a day for adults (Advanced range) and €22 a day for children; board only (€28 or €17) or boots only (€16 or €15).
• Snowshoes (€15 a day): for a day off skiing on the valley's snowy paths.

Sizes and boots: what we ask when you book

You don't need to know your ski length. When you book you give each person's shoe size, height and weight (and for snowboards, whether you ride left or right foot forward), and the shop prepares the equipment from those details. Boots are tried on at collection: if they pinch or feel loose, you get another size before you leave. For children, enter their actual weight, because that is what their bindings are set to.

3. Enter everyone's shoe size, height and weight, and pay online.
4. Collect your kit at the Vielha shop between 8:00 and 20:00, or the day before.

Getting from Vielha to Baqueira

The official Baqueira-Beret website routes access through Vielha and from there along the C-28 road to the resort; its lowest base, Baqueira 1500, sits at 1,500 m. Without a car, the Val d'Aran local bus runs up the valley from Pontaut to Baqueira and stops in Vielha on Av. de l'Alcalde Calbetó Barra, in front of the cinema; it runs roughly from 8:00 to 20:00, with extra services in winter. According to its official technical data, Baqueira-Beret has 169 km of marked pistes plus 4 km of itineraries, 127 runs (6 green, 47 blue, 56 red and 18 black) and 3 itineraries, served by 36 lifts, between 1,500 and 2,610 m: a vertical drop of 1,110 m. Vielha at a glance

Vielha is the capital of the Val d'Aran: a small Pyrenean town at 974 m, where the Garona (Garonne) and Nere rivers meet. Its old quarter has the church of Sant Miquèu, home to the 12th-century Romanesque Christ of Mijaran, and the Val d'Aran Museum. From the south you enter the valley through the 5,173 m Vielha tunnel; the nearest Spanish railway station is Lleida, 165 km away, and on the French side Luchon is 40 km away.
