The weather in Ordino Arcalís has little to do with the weather down in the valley. The resort sits at the head of the Ordino valley, north-facing and at high altitude, and that shows in the snow, in the cold and in how wind and fog affect it. In this guide we explain what the resort's weather is like through the season, what to check before heading up, and where to find the official snow report and the live webcams.
What the weather is like in Ordino Arcalís
Ordino Arcalís ranges from 1,940 to 2,625 metres of altitude, with 30.5 km of slopes across 442 skiable hectares. Its base is high for the Pyrenees and its north-facing aspect means the slopes get less direct sun in midwinter, which helps keep the snow cold for longer. The resort itself points out that it is usually one of the first to open and boasts one of the longest seasons in the Pyrenees.
The flip side of that altitude is exposure. Arcalís is an open resort, with little forest in its upper areas, so in strong wind or fog the day can get a lot more complicated than at resorts with tree-lined runs. That is why here it pays to check the wind and visibility forecast as much as the snow forecast.
Ordino Arcalís weather through the season
December: first snowfalls
The 2026/27 season is scheduled to open on 4 December, always depending on the snow and the weather. At the start of the season it is normal for not everything to be open, so check which lifts are running before planning your trip.
January and February: cold and powder
These are usually the coldest months. After a snowfall, the north-facing aspect helps the powder last, and this is when Arcalís attracts off-piste enthusiasts: the resort has 21 zones and 120 freeride routes. It is also when you need to pay the most attention to the wind, the visibility and the avalanche risk.
March and April: spring skiing
With more daylight the snow starts to transform, but the altitude and aspect make Arcalís a good option for the end of the season. Closing is scheduled for 4 April 2027, also depending on the snow.
What to check before heading up to Arcalís
- Wind: at such an open resort, it is what most affects the lifts and the wind chill.
- Visibility: in fog or a blizzard, it is hard to read the terrain in the treeless high areas.
- Avalanche danger: essential if you are going freeriding; check the official bulletin and always go out with safety equipment.
- Access road: the climb from Ordino is a mountain road; on snowy days carry chains or fit winter tyres.
- Lifts open: confirm it on the slope status before you set off, especially at the start and end of the season.
