Pajares Webcam Live: the Puerto de Pajares Today, Roads and Snow

Webcam Pajares en directo

Caranva Sports. |

Here are the Pajares webcams live: four DGT traffic cameras, one on the N-630 on the climb to the Puerto de Pajares and three on the AP-66, the Huerna motorway. Below them you have the weather and snow right now at the pass and at the Valgrande-Pajares ski resort. Check them before you cross between Asturias and León to see what the pass looks like today and whether you will need snow chains.

Every Pajares live cam on this page belongs to the DGT, Spain's traffic authority: they show the road and its surroundings, not the Valgrande-Pajares slopes. The images refresh on their own every so often; reload the page to see the latest one.

What to look for on the Pajares webcams before you set off

  • Is the N-630 white? If the tarmac on the climb camera looks white or shows tyre tracks in the snow, there are very likely restrictions in place. Confirm it at dgt.es or on 011 before you leave.
  • Is the Huerna any better? Compare the N-630 with the three AP-66 cameras. If the pass is white and the motorway is clear, the toll route may save you fitting chains.
  • Is it snowing right now? During a snowfall the picture is blurred, with flakes in front of the lens or a grey background. Cross-check what you see with the weather panel.
  • Is it windy? If you see snow blowing off the slopes onto the road, the wind is strong and snow can build up on the carriageway even after it has stopped falling.

When to check the webcams

Look at the cameras the night before if it has snowed during the day, although they are dark and show little detail at night. Check again between 8 and 9 am, just before you leave. During a snowfall, check the cameras and the forecast every so often, because the road can change within an hour.

Puerto de Pajares today: snow chains and alternatives

The Puerto de Pajares, at 1,378 m, links Asturias and León via the N-630, and right next to it is the Valgrande-Pajares ski resort, in the municipality of Lena. If you are wondering about chains, Pajares is one of the first passes to require them when it snows: check dgt.es or call 011 before you leave.

The alternative is the AP-66, the Huerna motorway, which is a toll road. Look at its three cameras on this page before you decide which way to cross.

If the webcam says yes: get your gear sorted

Caranva does not have a rental shop at Valgrande-Pajares yet. The nearby resort where you can book your kit online is Leitariegos: see our ski hire in Leitariegos. If you prefer San Isidro, you can watch its slopes live on the San Isidro webcam.

Pajares webcam FAQ

Which Puerto de Pajares cameras are on this page?

Four DGT traffic cameras: the N-630 on the climb to the pass (km 82.2) and the AP-66 Huerna motorway at km 74.1, 76.7 and 77.6. They show the road, not the slopes.

How often do they refresh?

The DGT updates the images automatically every so often. Reload the page to see the latest one.

Can I see them at night?

They are dark and show little detail. In daylight, from 8 am onwards, you can clearly see whether the road is white.

Is there snow in Pajares today?

Look at the N-630 camera and the weather panel, which shows yesterday's snowfall and the forecast for today and tomorrow at the pass and at Valgrande-Pajares.

Do I need snow chains for Pajares?

When it snows, the N-630 over the pass is one of the first roads to require them. The official notice is on dgt.es and on 011; if the pass requires chains, the AP-66 Huerna motorway is the toll alternative.

Do the webcams show the Valgrande-Pajares slopes?

No. They are traffic cameras and show the road and its surroundings. For snow at the resort, use the Valgrande-Pajares point in the weather panel.
