Where and when to collect and return
The exact collection point and its opening hours come in your booking confirmation email. On your last day you return the equipment to the same place you collected it.
Plan your collection around the trip up, because you can't drive to the Zugspitzplatt. You go up on the cogwheel train (Zahnradbahn) from the Zugspitzbahnhof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, about 200 m from the Deutsche Bahn station: 75 minutes to the top, stopping at Grainau. The other way up is the Seilbahn Zugspitze cable car from Lake Eibsee (10 minutes to the summit) and then the Gletscherbahn from the summit down to the glacier (4 minutes). From September to June the cable car runs from 8:30 to 16:45.
How booking works
- Choose your level and whether you want the full set, skis with poles, or boots only.
- Pick your collection and return dates: the total appears straight away, in euros.
- Pay online and get a confirmation email with the collection point and its opening hours.
- Collect your fitted kit and head up the mountain. If your plans change, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
Every booking comes with the CaranvaSports Guarantee.
The Zugspitze at a glance
The Zugspitze (2,962 m) is Germany's highest mountain and its ski area is the highest in the country: 20 km of slopes on the Zugspitzplatt, the glacier plateau at around 2,600 m between the Schneefernerkopf (2,874 m), the Wetterwandeck (2,698 m) and the summit itself. The altitude means you ski on natural snow, and there are runs for beginners, intermediates and experts. Up top there are three restaurants: Sonnalpin and Gletscher 2600 on the glacier, and Panorama 2962 on the summit.
2026/27 season: the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn expects skiing from 27 November 2026 to 2 May 2027. A Zugspitze day lift pass costs €70.50 for adults bought online up to the day before (€78 at the ticket office) and €35.50 for children aged 6 to 15 (€39 at the ticket office); it includes the Gletscherbahn and a return trip on the cable car or the cogwheel train. Children under 6 travel at no charge with their parents, but they also need a ticket when they're in a ski school class.
Zugspitze or Garmisch-Classic?
They are two separate ski areas, each with its own lift pass. The Zugspitze is the glacier: high mountain, natural snow and a long season, reached by train or cable car. Garmisch-Classic (Hausberg, Kreuzeck and Alpspitze) sits right above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with a train stop by the Hausbergbahn, and its season is expected to run from mid-December to 29 March 2027. If you want to try both, the Twin-Ticket gives you one day in each. For Garmisch-Classic there's ski hire in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Complete your trip to the Zugspitze
The Zugspitze lift pass isn't sold on CaranvaSports: you buy it on the official website, zugspitze.de (€70.50 for an adult day pass, online up to the day before), or at the valley stations' ticket offices (€78).
