Garmisch-Partenkirchen at a glance

Garmisch-Partenkirchen lies in Upper Bavaria at the foot of the Zugspitze (2,962 m), Germany's highest mountain, and has two ski areas run by the same operator, the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, with separate lift passes. Garmisch-Classic has 40 km of runs across three mountains – Alpspitze (2,628 m), Kreuzeck (1,651 m) and Hausberg (1,310 m) – with four runs down to the valley. On the Hausberg is the Ixis Kinderland children's area, with a magic carpet and 3 beginner lifts.

The town hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics and the 1978 and 2011 Alpine World Ski Championships, and the Kandahar is still on the World Cup circuit: it drops from 1,690 to 770 m, and its "Freier Fall" section, at a 92% gradient, is the steepest on the entire World Cup. Less confident skiers can start from the Kandahar-Express mid-station and skip the hardest sections.

The second area is the Zugspitze glacier: 20 km of runs on the Zugspitzplatt at 2,600 m, reached by cog railway from Garmisch-Partenkirchen (75 minutes) or by the Zugspitze cable car from the Eibsee.

2026/27 season (planned): Garmisch-Classic from mid-December to 29 March 2027; the Zugspitze from 27 November 2026 to 2 May 2027.

We don't sell lift passes: buy them at zugspitze.de (on sale from mid-November) or at the valley station ticket offices. 2026/27 prices, valid from 27 November 2026: a Garmisch-Classic day pass costs €69 online and €72 at the ticket office (children aged 6 to 15, €34.50), and a Zugspitze day pass €70.50 online. The 6-day Top Snow Card (Garmisch-Classic, Zugspitze, Mittenwald and five Tyrolean areas, 210 km) costs €378. Children under 6 do not pay for a lift pass when skiing with their parents.
