Bormio at a glance
According to bormioski.eu, the resort’s official website, Bormio Ski has 50 km of pistes, 30 runs (10 blue, 13 red and 7 black), 12 lifts, 3 ski-school areas, a snowpark (The Jungle), a funslope and a children’s snow play area. The lifts go from the village (1,200 m) to Cima Bianca (3,017 m): 1,817 m of vertical, the biggest skiable vertical in Italy according to the resort, and a non-stop 8.5 km descent from the summit to the village.
The most famous run is the Stelvio: it starts at 2,255 m, is 3,250 m long with a 1,010 m drop and finishes in the village at 1,245 m. It hosted the 1985 and 2005 World Championships and, in February 2026, the men’s alpine skiing and the ski mountaineering events of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
2026/27 season: the ski area is open every day from 4 December 2026 to 11 April 2027. After skiing, Bormio has three thermal spas.
Lift passes aren’t included in the rental. On the official 2026/27 price list, an adult day pass for Bormio costs €40 from 4 to 18 December, €59 in low season and €65 in high season (26 December–8 January and 30 January–29 March). The 6-day Bormio Skipass, valid in Bormio, Santa Caterina and Cima Piazzi-San Colombano (110 km), costs €226, €275 or €342 depending on the dates.
Getting there: the nearest railway station is Tirano, about 2 h 30 min from Milano Centrale on the direct train; from Tirano a bus runs to Bormio.
Bormio, Santa Caterina or Livigno?
Bormio suits skiers who want vertical and long runs —the Stelvio, the 8.5 km descent from Cima Bianca— and a proper village with thermal spas. Santa Caterina Valfurva (35 km, inside the Stelvio National Park) and Cima Piazzi-San Colombano (25 km, designed for families) are on the same Bormio Skipass, with a ski bus included in the lift pass.
Livigno, also in Alta Valtellina, has 115 km and 31 lifts; the Alta Valtellina Skipass covers all four areas, over 200 km, and a 6-day adult pass costs €272 to €394 depending on the dates.
