Oberwiesenthal and the Fichtelberg at a glance
Kurort Oberwiesenthal, in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), is the highest town in Germany, and the Fichtelberg (1,215 m), its mountain, is the highest summit in Saxony, right on the Czech border. According to the lift company's official website, the ski area runs from 911 to 1,214.79 m and has 10 runs totalling 15.5 km: 6.8 km easy, 6.1 km intermediate and 1.2 km difficult. It is served by 6 lifts – the Fichtelberg cable car (Schwebebahn), a four-seater chairlift and 4 drag lifts – with around 12.1 km of runs covered by snowmaking, a floodlit run on the main slope for night skiing and some 75 km of cross-country trails and ski-hiking routes.
The Fichtelberg-Schwebebahn, built in 1924, is Germany's oldest aerial cable car: it climbs 303 m over a length of 1,175 m. Together with neighbouring Klínovec (1,244 m) on the Czech side, the Fichtelberg forms the InterSkiregion Fichtelberg–Klínovec, with 45 km of runs and 15 lifts; from the 1.5-day pass upwards you can ski on both sides of the border.
Who is it for? With almost all of its runs easy or intermediate and night skiing on offer, the Fichtelberg suits families, beginners and short breaks; if you want more kilometres, the InterSkiregion pass adds Klínovec. As of 6 October 2026 the lift company has not yet published the 2026/27 opening date or lift ticket prices.
