Ski hire in Vall de Núria: your kit is waiting at the top
There is no road to Vall de Núria. The only way up is the rack railway (the Cremallera de Núria), which starts in Ribes de Freser, in the Catalan Pyrenees, and stops at Queralbs on the way. That makes ski rental in Vall de Núria different from other resorts: you travel up light, with no skis or boots on the train, and get kitted out at the top, in our shop at the foot of the slopes. Book online, choose skiing, snowboarding, ski touring or snowshoes, and your equipment is set aside in your size and for your level.

How ski rental works in Vall de Núria
Which option to choose
- Adult full set (€29.77 a day): what most people take; skis, boots and poles ready for the slopes.
- Skis + poles (€25 a day) if you bring your own boots. The other way round, boots only (€13 a day) if you bring your skis, or poles only (€6 a day).
- Children's set (€25.22 a day): skis, boots and poles sized for the child, with the bindings set to their weight.
- Snowboard: board and boots at €45 a day for adults and €36 a day for children; board only (€31) or boots only (€17) also available.
- Ski touring (€38 a day): touring kit for the resort's ski-touring routes.
- Snowshoes (€15 a day, adult or child): for the waymarked snowshoe trails if you are not skiing. On icy days, add crampons (€13 a day).
Sizes and boots: what we ask when you book
You don't need to know your ski length. When you book you give each skier's height, weight and shoe size, and the shop sets up the skis and bindings from those details. For snowboards we also ask which foot goes forward (regular or goofy). Boots are tried on at collection: if a pair pinches or feels loose, you get another size before you head out. For children, enter their actual weight, because that is what their bindings are set to.
How to book ski hire in Núria
- Choose skiing, snowboarding, ski touring or snowshoes, and the set for each person.
- Pick your collection and return days: the total shows straight away.
- Enter everyone's height, weight and shoe size, and pay online.
- Ride the rack railway up and collect your kit at the slope-side shop, with no queues, between 8:00 and 17:00.
If your plans change, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before collection (see the cancellation policy). And if the shop ever cannot supply what you booked, the Garantía CaranvaSports gives you an equal or better alternative at no extra cost, or a 100% refund.
Collecting and returning with the rack railway: tips
- The train takes about 40 minutes from Ribes-Enllaç. To make the most of the morning, take one of the first trains: your kit is ready when you arrive.
- Because you collect at the top, you never carry skis or boots on the train or in the car.
- On your last day, return everything before 17:00 and before your train down. Check the rack railway timetable the day before.
- If you stay up in the valley (there are three hotels at the resort), hire for all your days in one go and return it all at the end.
Vall de Núria at a glance
Vall de Núria is a small ski and mountain resort in the eastern Pyrenees of Catalonia, in the municipality of Queralbs, inside the Capçaleres del Ter i del Freser Natural Park. According to its official technical sheet it has 7.6 km of pistes and 11 runs (3 green, 3 blue, 3 red and 2 black) between 1,964 and 2,252 m, served by 5 lifts: a gondola, a chairlift, two drag lifts and a magic carpet. Snowmaking covers 90% of the skiable area.
It is a quiet, family-oriented resort, with a children's slope, two sledging runs, tubing and two ski schools. Away from the pistes there are six snowshoe routes and two ski-touring routes. The rack railway, run by FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya), covers 12.5 km and climbs 1,000 m, stopping at Ribes-Enllaç, Ribes-Vila and Queralbs before reaching Núria at 1,964 m.
Skiing with children in Núria
A children's full set costs €25.22 a day (€151.32 for 6 days) and a children's snowboard set €36. If it is their first time, book a lesson with one of the resort's ski schools too, and keep the snowshoes (€15 a day) for the afternoon: the snowshoe trails are a good way to stay out in the snow once they are tired of skiing.
Lift pass, weather and where to stay
Ski hire does not include the lift pass or the train ticket: you will find both on the Vall de Núria rack railway and lift pass page. Before you go up, check the weather and webcams in Núria, and if you are staying overnight, our guide to hotels in Vall de Núria.
