Mirador del Azul: El Bolsón's natural balcony (Updated 2025)
A wild viewpoint just a stone's throw from the city: easy, free and brutally photogenic.
Why visit Mirador del Azul?
Because it offers the best panoramic view of the winding Río Azul, with the legendary Cerro Tres Picos closing the horizon and a sea of cypress trees at your feet. And all without paying admission or excessive effort! Here the sunsets set the valley ablaze, while clear mornings give you turquoise-tinged postcards. A free luxury that few destinations can match.
How to get there (2025)
By car
From Plaza Pagano take Av. San Martín toward Lago Puelo. After 4.7 km cross the Quemquemtreu river bridge and turn onto calle Eduardo Sfeir. The route climbs gently on marked gravel for 1 km to the official parking area next to the viewpoint. Total time: 12 minutes.
On foot or by bike
If you're looking for an active plan, follow the same route on path and trail. It's 5 km one-way with just 120 m of elevation gain: 45 min at a brisk pace or 70 min enjoying the scenery. Ideal for a morning walk before grabbing smoked trout at El Bolsón's downtown.
Extended hiking route
Want more adventure? Combine Mirador del Azul + Cascada Cárdenas in a 13.8 km circuit, moderate difficulty and 147 m positive elevation gain. Perfect for half a day of trekking.
