Candanchú ski resort: slopes, season and getting there (2026/27)
Candanchú is the ski resort in the Aragón valley, in the Pyrenees of Huesca, that opened in the 1928-1929 season. It sits 28 km from Jaca and 11 km from Canfranc, right on the French border, and tops out at Tuca Blanca, 2,400 m, at the foot of Pico Aspe. Its 25 lifts, with a capacity of 26,000 people per hour, serve four sectors, and together with Astún, its neighbour 2 km away, it makes up the 100K ski area.
Candanchú's four sectors
The area is split between Pista Grande, Tobazo, Rinconada and Tuca Blanca, with six chairlifts (Reina Sofía, Tobazo, Alto Aragón, Tortiellas, Tuca Blanca and Rey Juan Carlos), drag lifts and magic carpets. The resort itself describes it as terrain with runs of different difficulty that lets you progress step by step and lets skiers of every level ski together.
- Pista Grande, for starting out: the favourite area for learning, next to the car park, with the beginners' runs and their magic carpets. It is laid out so that the family can watch the learners from below. The Pista Grande café houses the snow garden for children aged 3 to 7 and the Barambán après-ski.
- Tobazo: the slope of the resort's first chairlift, built in 1945. At the top, at 2,020 m, is La Cleta del Tobazo restaurant, looking out over the Aragón valley.
- Rinconada: the Sarrios area, with one of the resort's four webcams at 2,000 m.
- Tuca Blanca: the highest point, at 2,400 m, facing north-west and surrounded by big rocky peaks.
- Nordic skiing and racing: 3 cross-country circuits, a biathlon stadium, an alpine racing stadium and a snowshoe circuit. For snowmaking there are 135 snow cannons covering 8 km.
The 100K ski area with Astún
The Astún-Candanchú lift pass covers both resorts, which are linked during the season by a free shuttle bus. Together they add up to 101 km, 110 marked runs (14 green, 31 blue, 35 red and 30 black) and 40 lifts. The gondola that will join the two resorts is under construction and is expected for the 2027/28 season; we cover it in our story on the Astún-Candanchú gondola.
2026/27 season and opening hours
As of 5 October 2026, Candanchú has not announced its opening date for 2026/27. For reference, last season it opened on 5 December 2025 and closed on 5 April 2026, after 121 days of skiing. According to the resort, the slopes are open from 9:00 to 17:00, Monday to Sunday; towards the end of the season it usually switches to spring hours, 8:30 to 15:00. The resort is closed on 25 December.
Getting there and parking
From Jaca it is 28 km up the Aragón valley on a wide road, and 11 km from Canfranc. The 100K area gives these road distances: Pamplona 137 km, Zaragoza 168 km, San Sebastián 215 km, Vitoria 230 km, Bilbao 301 km, Barcelona 382 km and Madrid 503 km. From France, the Pau area is one of its usual catchments: you come over via the Aspe valley and the Somport. Without a car, there is a regular bus from Jaca stopping in the valley villages. Parking is free until the car park is full, with space for motorhomes and a reserved area for disabled drivers next to the Pista Grande café; the medical centre is in the main car park, at the foot of the slopes.
