Rossignol skis have been on the snow for more than a century: the French brand was founded in 1907 in Voiron, near Grenoble, and today makes skis for every level, as well as boots, snowboards and clothing. In this independent guide we tell you which ranges Rossignol has, which skier each one is for, what changes between the men's and women's models and how to rent high-end skis in Chile, Argentina, Spain or Andorra.
Rossignol Skis: What the Brand Is and Where It Comes From
- Origin: France. Abel Rossignol, a carpenter from Voiron (Isère), started making wooden skis in 1907. It's one of the oldest ski brands still in business.
- The name: rossignol means "nightingale" in French. The logo, on the other hand, is a rooster, a traditional symbol of France.
- Group: Rossignol heads a group that also includes Dynastar skis, Lange boots and Look bindings.
- Catalogue: alpine, cross-country and touring skis, boots, snowboards, helmets and technical snow clothing.
Rossignol Ski Ranges and Which Level Each One Suits
Rossignol updates its models every season, but the families stay the same. In the mountain ranges, the model number usually matches the waist width in millimetres: wider means more float in powder; narrower means quicker edge-to-edge on the piste.
| Range | Terrain | Suggested level |
|---|---|---|
| Hero | Piste and racing | Advanced to expert |
| Experience | Piste and all-mountain | Intermediate to advanced, depending on the model |
| Nova | Piste, women's line | Beginner to intermediate |
| Sender | Freeride and wide all-mountain | Advanced |
| Blackops | Freeride and freestyle | Intermediate to expert |
| Escaper | Light touring | Advanced, with mountain experience |
Rossignol Hero: The Racing Range
Hero is Rossignol's racing line, plus its spin-offs for fast recreational skiers. These are piste skis, stable at speed and with lots of grip. They perform when the skier loads the edge; if you still skid to turn, you'll find them hard work.
Rossignol Experience: The Versatile Ski
Experience is probably the brand's most versatile range: skis designed mainly for the piste, able to handle chopped-up snow and the odd gentle foray off-piste. It has easy-going models for progressing skiers and more powerful ones for advanced skiers, and several of them come in a women's version.
Rossignol Nova: Piste Skis for Progressing Women Skiers
Nova is a piste-oriented women's line, with light models that are easy to turn. It's a good benchmark if you're learning or consolidating your parallel turns.
Rossignol Sender and Blackops: Off-Piste
Sender is the freeride and wide all-mountain range, for powder days and mixed terrain. Blackops has a more creative, playful approach: untracked snow, jumps and natural terrain. Neither is the best option for a hard-packed piste first thing in the morning.
Rossignol Escaper: Touring
Escaper is geared towards light touring: climbing with skins and skiing down ungroomed terrain. It requires specific bindings and mountain knowledge.
Women's and Men's Rossignol Skis
Women's models are usually lighter, with a flex suited to less weight. Even so, you shouldn't choose by the label alone: a technical female skier may enjoy a men's Hero or Experience more, and a lighter male skier may be more comfortable on a women's model. When you rent, what counts is your weight, height and level.
Beyond Skis: Rossignol Snowboards, Boots and Clothing
Unlike other ski brands, Rossignol also makes snowboards, so it's easy to find it in both disciplines. Its Rossignol boots range from comfortable piste models to race boots; as with any brand, what matters most is that the last fits your foot. And the brand has a well-known snow clothing line.
If you're going to try snowboarding, you can rent a snowboard in Sierra Nevada. For clothing, take a look at our selection of snow clothing, with rental at resorts such as Sierra Nevada or Santiago de Chile.
How Good Is the Rossignol Brand? Strengths and Things to Consider
- Pros: more than a hundred years of experience, a presence in racing, a very wide catalogue and beginner-friendly models.
- Things to consider: within each range there are models with very different characters; an entry-level Experience and a premium one are nothing alike. Choose by level, not just by family name.
If you're torn between brands, compare with our guides to Atomic skis, Fischer skis and Elan skis, or go through the complete ski guide to understand types, lengths and widths before choosing. To see specific models this season, there's also the best skis of the 2026/27 season.
How to Rent Rossignol Skis (or Skis of the Same Level)
At Caranva we don't sell skis: we rent them out (or hire them, as some say) through shops at the resorts. If you want to ski on Rossignols for a week, renting is more practical than buying and travelling with them. Shops organise their equipment by range, from beginner to premium, and don't assign a specific model until they see you. In the premium rental ranges it's common to find brands such as Rossignol, Atomic, Head, Salomon, Fischer or Elan; if you want a particular brand, say so when you book.
- Choose the resort and your dates; price and availability are shown on each product page.
- Choose the range for your level, not for the brand: a race ski in a beginner's hands is tiring and scary.
- Enter your height, weight, level and shoe size: with that information the shop sets the ski length and the binding.
- Note your brand preference in the booking; if it's available in your range, they'll have it ready for you.
- Pick up your equipment at the shop, where they check your boots and the fit with you before you head up.
Chile
- Ski Rental in Santiago de Chile: pick up in the city and head up to the Andes fully equipped.
- Ski Rental in Valle Nevado, with a transfer from Santiago to Valle Nevado if you'd rather not drive the winding road.
- Everything available near the capital, in Santiago de Chile.
Argentina
- Ski Rental in Cerro Catedral and the rest of the options in Bariloche.
Spain and Andorra
- Ski Rental in Sierra Nevada
- Ski Rental in Baqueira Beret
- Ski Rental in Formigal
- Ski Rental in La Molina
- Ski Rental in El Tarter (Andorra)
