Cortina d'Ampezzo is Italy's gateway to the Dolomites: 120 km of its own between 1,224 and 2,930 m, 38 lifts and 72 runs spread over three sectors that don't connect with each other. The Dolomiti Superski lift pass extends that to 1,200 km across 12 ski areas, so your equipment has to cope with very different days.

Which Range to Rent for Each Sector
- Socrepes and Tondi — most of the 33 blue runs are here. The Basic range is more than enough, and this is the area where kids learn.
- Tofane – Ra Valles — the high sector and home to the Olympia delle Tofane, a World Cup run. With 30 red runs and hard snow in the morning, the Sport range makes the difference.
- Faloria – Cristallo and Cinque Torri — 7 black runs, ice first thing and the Giro della Grande Guerra. This is where the premium range pays off.
Where to Pick Up Your Equipment in Cortina
The three sectors aren't linked by runs, so pick-up is arranged with the shop in the sector where you'll start: the village centre (Corso Italia), the Socrepes base or the Faloria base. If you're staying in the centre and skiing in Tofane, it's easier to pick up in the village the afternoon before.
When Cortina d'Ampezzo Opens
The season usually runs from late November to early April, with the full Dolomiti Superski open from early December. January and February bring the most reliable snow; March, the best sunshine over the Tofane.
How to Get to Cortina
Venice airport is 2 h away (160 km) and Treviso 1 h 45 min. There's no train station in Cortina: the usual connection is Calalzo di Cadore (35 min by bus). In winter the SS51 may require winter tyres or chains.
