Yes: Astún is a good resort to learn at. Of its 51 runs, 5 are green and 18 blue, and the resort itself counts 23 runs suitable for everyone from complete beginners to intermediates. The first days are spent at the base, on the Collarada magic carpet, designed for beginners and covered since last season, with the ski school, ticket offices and car park a few minutes' walk away.
To get started, the Beginner range is all you need: ski hire in Astún costs €26 a day for a full adult set (soft skis and boots), at a fixed price per day. You pick it up from our shop, 15 metres from the lifts at Astún ski resort, and you're on the snow in five minutes.
Where to start skiing in Astún
Everything a beginner needs is at the base, at 1,658 m: the resort sums it up by saying all services are less than 5 minutes from your car. The hut of the Astún Official Ski School (EOEA), where you meet your instructor, is about 200 metres from the car park, and lift passes are collected from machines next to the ticket offices.
- Collarada magic carpet: the beginners' conveyor lift. Since 2025/26 it has been covered, which is welcome on snowy or windy days.
- Green and blue runs: once you can turn and stop with control, the next step is the 5 green runs and then the 18 blue ones. Ask your instructor which ones suit the snow conditions on the day; the piste map is on the resort's website.
- What to avoid at first: the 6 black runs are marked but not groomed, and the 22 red runs call for a clearly intermediate level.
Beginner lessons in Astún
We don't sell lessons in Astún: they are run by the resort's ski school. These are its published prices for 2025/26, which serve as a guide until the 2026/27 prices come out:
| Type of lesson | Duration | 2025/26 price |
|---|---|---|
| Weekend group lesson (from age 6) | 5 h: Saturday 12-15 h and Sunday 10-12 h | €69.50/person |
| Private, 1 or 2 students | 1 hour | €51-56 |
| Private, 1 or 2 students | 2 hours | €99-110 |
| Christmas, Epiphany or Easter course | 8 h over 4 days, from 10 to 12 h | €99/person |
Weekend group lessons are for beginner levels (A, B and C in skiing) and need a minimum of 5 students; if there are fewer, the lesson is cut to one hour a day. In snowboarding, the group lesson is for complete beginners only and from age 8. For someone who has never skied, a two-hour private lesson on the first day usually gets more done than a group lesson: the instructor goes at your pace.

Lift pass for the first days
Astún has a beginner lift pass and a half-day lift pass, both valid only on the day you buy them. The 2026/27 price has not been published yet: check the resort's website or ask at the ticket office. If you're only going to be on the magic carpet on your first day, ask about the beginner pass before buying a full-day one. There's more information in the article on the Astún lift pass.
