This page is about Fischer skis, made by Fischer Sports, the Austrian brand from Ried im Innkreis; not about fischer, the German company that makes wall plugs and fixings. Fischer Sports makes alpine skis and boots, has a long racing tradition and is one of the leading brands in cross-country skiing. Here we explain its ranges, which level each one suits and how to rent high-end skis in Chile, Argentina, Spain or Andorra.

Fischer Skis and fischer Wall Plugs: Two Different Companies

Searching for just "fischer" mixes up two companies that have nothing in common beyond the surname:

Fischer Sports (skis) fischer (fixings)
Country Austria Germany
Headquarters Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria) Waldachtal (Baden-Württemberg)
Origin Workshop founded by Josef Fischer in 1924 Company founded by the inventor Artur Fischer
What it makes Alpine and cross-country skis, boots and snow equipment Wall plugs, anchors and fixing systems for construction and DIY

If you were looking for wall plugs, this isn't your page. If you're looking for skis, read on.

Fischer Ski Ranges and Which Level Each One Suits

Fischer updates its models every season but keeps its families. As a guide:

Range Terrain Suggested level
RC4 Piste and racing Advanced to expert
The Curv Piste, carving Upper intermediate to expert
RC One Piste and all-mountain Intermediate to advanced
Ranger All-mountain and freeride Intermediate to expert
Transalp Touring Advanced, with mountain experience

Fischer RC4: World Cup Heritage

RC4 is Fischer's racing line, and it spawns models for fast recreational skiers. These are skis for hard-packed pistes, stable and with lots of grip. They perform when the skier drives the turn on the edge.

Fischer The Curv: Pure Carving

The Curv is designed for carved turns on the piste: defined turns, precision and responsiveness. It's a range for skiers who have already mastered parallel turns and want to enjoy carving.

Fischer RC One: The Versatile Piste Option

RC One is a more versatile family, comfortable on the piste and capable in chopped-up snow. It suits the intermediate skier who wants to progress without an overly demanding ski.

Fischer Ranger: The Whole Mountain

Ranger is the all-mountain and freeride range: more width for soft snow and off-piste, and enough control to get back on the piste. It's the choice if you ski a bit of everything and like heading out after a snowfall.

Fischer Transalp: Touring

Transalp is the ski touring line: lightweight skis for climbing with skins and skiing down off-piste, with specific bindings and boots. It isn't standard equipment in slope-side rental shops.

If You're Just Starting Out

Fischer also has softer beginner models that are easy to turn. For your first days, what matters is a forgiving ski and a boot that fits well, not the racing range.

Men's and Women's Fischer Skis

Several Fischer ranges have women's versions, usually lighter and with a flex suited to less weight. You don't have to choose by gender: a technical female skier may do better on a men's model and vice versa. When you rent, what counts is your weight, height and level. In boots, Fischer is known for its Vacuum system, which moulds the shell to your foot.

Fischer and Cross-Country Skiing

Where Fischer is especially strong is in cross-country skiing (Nordic), both racing and recreational. It makes skate and classic skis, such as the race-oriented Speedmax range, and the Twin Skin technology: classic skis with a synthetic skin in the middle section that grips when you push off without needing grip wax, very handy for beginners.

If this discipline interests you, read our guide to getting started in cross-country skiing. Cross-country equipment is usually rented at the Nordic centre itself.

Are Fischer Skis Good? Strengths and Things to Consider

  • Pros: a long racing tradition in both alpine and cross-country, in-house manufacturing in Austria and ranges clearly differentiated by terrain.
  • Things to consider: its sportiest piste models (RC4, The Curv) demand technique; if you're still consolidating your turns, choose a more forgiving range.

If you're torn between brands, compare with our guides to Atomic skis, Rossignol skis and Elan skis, or go through the complete ski guide to understand types, lengths and widths before choosing. To see specific models this season, there's also the best skis of the 2026/27 season.

How to Rent Fischer Skis (or Skis of the Same Level)

At Caranva we don't sell skis: we rent them out (or hire them, as some say) through shops at the resorts. If you want to ski on Fischer skis without buying them, renting at the resort is the easiest way to try them. Shops organise their equipment by range, from beginner to premium, and don't assign a specific model until they see you. In the premium rental ranges it's common to find brands such as Rossignol, Atomic, Head, Salomon, Fischer or Elan; if you want a particular brand, say so when you book.

  1. Choose the resort and your dates; price and availability are shown on each product page.
  2. Choose the range for your level, not for the brand: a race ski in a beginner's hands is tiring and scary.
  3. Enter your height, weight, level and shoe size: with that information the shop sets the ski length and the binding.
  4. Note your brand preference in the booking; if it's available in your range, they'll have it ready for you.
  5. Pick up your equipment at the shop, where they check your boots and the fit with you before you head up.
