Ski school on the Zugspitze: book your ski lessons

The Zugspitze, above Grainau, is Germany's highest ski area: 20 km of slopes on the Zugspitzplatt at 2,600 m, between the Schneefernerkopf (2,874 m), the Wetterwandeck (2,698 m) and the Zugspitze summit (2,962 m), with runs for beginners, advanced skiers and experts. The official website is clear: ski lessons are available in groups or privately, for children or adults. Here you request yours without paying anything up front: choose your level, lesson type and days, and we find you a place at a local ski school.

Types of lesson and indicative price per day

  • Group lesson, 2 hours: €42 per day (indicative price). You share the instructor with other skiers at your level. It is the most common way to learn or to build confidence over several days in a row, and the first to fill up in the holidays.
  • Private lesson, 2 hours: €89 per day (indicative price). The instructor is there just for you, or for you and your family or friends: you progress at your own pace and work on exactly what you need, from your first turn to black runs.
  • Kids, group (€42) or private (€89) per day (indicative price). Choose “Kids” and the lesson type when you book; we confirm the school and the exact group by email.

Adults choose a level: Beginner (never skied or only a few days), Intermediate (linking turns on blue and easy red runs) or Advanced (comfortable on red and black runs, polishing technique). The indicative price is the same at all three levels.

Indicative prices by number of days

DaysGroup (2 h/day)Private (2 h/day)
1 day€42€89
2 days€84€178
3 days€126€267
4 days€168€356
5 days€210€445

Total = daily price × number of days. These are indicative prices: we confirm the final price before the lesson and you pay it at the ski school.

How booking works, in 4 steps

  1. Choose your level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Kids), the lesson type (group or private, 2 hours) and the days.
  2. Send your request. 0% online: nothing is paid on the website.
  3. We confirm by email: we find a place at a local ski school and, before the lesson, send you the school, meeting point, time and final price. If we can't find a place for your dates, we tell you and you pay nothing.
  4. Go to your lesson and pay directly at the ski school.

Cancelling your request costs nothing as long as we haven't confirmed it. We give you the ski school's cancellation terms with the confirmation.

Not included: lift pass and equipment

  • Lift pass: not included, and we don't sell it. A 2026/27 Zugspitze day pass costs €70.50 online and €78 at the ticket office for adults, and €35.50 online (€39 at the ticket office) for children aged 6 to 15; it includes the Gletscherbahn and the ride up and down on the Zugspitze cable car and/or the cogwheel train (zugspitze.de prices, valid from 27 November 2026). Children under 6 skiing with their parents don't pay for a lift ticket, but in a ski course they also need a valid ticket.
  • Equipment: skis, boots, poles and helmet are extra. You can rent them through our ski hire on the Zugspitze and your ski clothing through our ski clothing hire on the Zugspitze.

Getting up to the glacier: allow time

You reach the Zugspitzplatt by train or cable car, so add that time to your lesson time. The cogwheel train takes 75 minutes from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and stops in Grainau; its Garmisch-Partenkirchen station is about 200 m from the Deutsche Bahn station. The Zugspitze cable car leaves from the Eibsee, in Grainau, and takes 10 minutes; from the summit, the Gletscherbahn takes you down to the Platt in 4 minutes. Once we confirm your meeting point and time, plan the ride up with time to spare.

The 2026/27 season is expected to run from 27 November 2026 to 2 May 2027, longer than in Garmisch-Classic. If you are staying in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and would rather start lower down, in a beginner area, the Ixis Kinderland on the Hausberg has a moving carpet and 3 beginner lifts: see our ski lessons in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. For non-skiers, the Zugspitzplatt has toboggan runs for the whole family.

When to book

Christmas and New Year, Easter, weekends and school holidays are the busiest dates at ski schools. Send your request as soon as you know your dates: the earlier it reaches us, the more room we have to find you a place.

Questions about ski lessons on the Zugspitze

How much is a ski lesson on the Zugspitze?

The indicative price is €42 per day for a 2-hour group lesson and €89 per day for a 2-hour private lesson; 5 days in a group come to €210. We confirm the final price before the lesson and you pay it at the ski school.

Do I have to pay in advance?

No. It's 0% online: you send the request without paying anything on the website and pay for the lesson directly at the ski school.

What if there's no place available?

We tell you by email and you pay nothing. If you like, we look for other dates or another type of lesson.

Are there ski lessons for kids on the Zugspitze?

Yes: choose “Kids” as a group lesson (€42/day) or a private lesson (€89/day), indicative prices. Note that in a ski course children under 6 also need a valid lift ticket, and allow for the ride up to the glacier when you plan the lesson time.

Group or private lesson?

A group lesson (€42/day, indicative) is the usual choice for learning over several days. A private lesson (€89/day, indicative) moves faster because the instructor is there only for you or your party, which suits you if you are short on time or want to work on something specific.

Does the lesson include a lift pass and equipment?

No. A Zugspitze day pass for 2026/27 costs €70.50 online or €78 at the ticket office (children aged 6–15: €35.50 online), includes the ride up and down, and is sold on zugspitze.de or at the ticket office. You can rent your equipment through our ski hire on the Zugspitze.

When do you confirm my lesson?

Before the lesson, by email, with the ski school, meeting point, time and final price. The sooner you send the request, the more room we have to find a place.

Can I cancel?

Yes: cancelling the request costs nothing as long as it isn't confirmed. We give you the ski school's cancellation terms with the confirmation.

When can you ski on the Zugspitze in 2026/27?

According to zugspitze.de, the season is expected to run from 27 November 2026 to 2 May 2027, longer than in Garmisch-Classic (mid-December to 29 March 2027).
