According to the resort, Serre Chevalier Vallée Briançon is the largest ski area in the Southern Alps: 250 km of pistes (410 marked hectares), 58 lifts and 82 runs — 15 green, 26 blue, 28 red and 13 black — with 80% of the runs above 1,800 m. The highest point is the top of the Yret chairlift (2,830 m), above Le Monêtier-les-Bains. The ski area links three villages in the Guisane valley — Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Le Monêtier — with Briançon, the Vauban-fortified town (1,326 m) listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many visitors search for the villages as “Serre Chevalier 1350” (Chantemerle) or “1400” (Villeneuve).
2026/27 season: scheduled to open on 5 December 2026 in Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Le Monêtier, and on 12 December in Briançon; closing on 4 April 2027 in Briançon and on 18 April in the other three sectors, snow permitting. Lift passes are sold separately; children under 6 and adults over 75 ski free.
Getting there: by train to Briançon station (TGV from Paris and Marseille, plus the overnight train from Paris); by air via Turin (about 2 hours) or Lyon Saint-Exupéry (about 3 hours); and by shuttle bus from Oulx TGV station in Italy.
